Houston, We have a Toddler!

We took road trip this weekend. The idea was to enjoy our family and the last waning days of summer. And we did do that - in between Katie's bouts of terribletwoititis. For those of you encouraging the creation of a lil' bro or lil' sis for Katie, I invite you on our next road trip. Yes, I do. Interestingly enough, K is smiling in most of these pics, but don't be fooled. She is smiling because she is masterminding her next plot to overthrow the unsuspecting parents.

Daddy and Kate say "Go Rangers!" at the Astro game.

A trip to the gift shop, and now we own a pom pon that doubles as hair accessory.

Wearing our mom and daughter sneaks to the game. Mom, want to take this to the next generation? I can get you a pair!

I took cuter pictures of Katie happily waving from the carousel, but I love the similar expressions they are wearing in this one. This was at the Houston Aquarium.

Yes, it was humid.

Daddy shows off his muscles at the Children's Museum

I know this picture takes my blog from a G rating to PG, but I can not resist! If that's not her maiden name, she LOVES her husband! This was on the road to Kemah. If I lived in her county, she'd get my vote. I wonder if her students gave her a lot of .....
All during our trip, Katie would answer any question we asked with "maybe." Maybe I will try to be more mature in the future. Or maybe not? Jon will probably start his own blog after this!

"This is my best prize ever!" That's what Katie said when her Daddy won this big fish for her on the Kemah boardwalk. Jon was looking a youthful 29 this night to the Guess Your Age Master of Ceremonies/carnie. Fish or no fish, I'd say being mistaken for 29 (as long as you are actually over 29) is worth the money to play this game. I can see how this is a gamble though. I wonder if the M.C./carnie is trained to guess low.
We were calling the fish Nemo, but Katie has never heard of him or his movie. She renamed him Nina.

It's not half chewed vitamins spit in the closet, but it's close.

I used to hide my Flintstone vitamins under my tongue and then spit them behind the dresser in my closet.

I USED to be able to only imagine my mother's shock upon discovering the half decomposed bodies of the Flintstone family.

But today I found this...

Look up there on the bookcase...

To the right of her head...

Are those....

BANDAIDS?!?!

Yes, Katie has started her own little bandaid collection.

I am just thankful I know they all came from her boo-boos.

painted piggies

This is a big first for our girly-girl. She sat super still while I applied the polish. Katie selected Opi's Elephantastic Pink. I think she chose it for the name. Just like I do.

Gobble, gobble (at least the male turkeys do seasonally when sleepy)

I made Katie some play food for Thanksgiving. She loves her roast turkey. She gives it hugs and kisses. I hope she isn't too traumatized when she finds out where turkey dinners come from.

Yes, the drumsticks detach.

Punkin' Pie

Thanksgiving morning we ran the Turkey Trot. Here's K and Daddy bundled up to race.

Mawhner/Grandma's favorite trotters.

Our racing team ready to run! Jon is not happy I used my whole neck to smile in this picture.

Can you tell what I am most thankful for? No, it's not the stroller! Guess again.

We had an early dinner at Grandma/Mawhner and Granddad's. Look Jon's "don't show the teeth smile" is possibly a family trait.

Here's Memaw T cookin' it up. You know it was good!

The feast!

Read-a-thon

My nightstand looks a lot like this mess Katie made. Books are the best.

Mommy and Me at the Arboretum (and fun with iPhoto effects)

Jon's girls - but where's Abbey?

The pumpkin patch

She'll go in the zoo, but you can't make her pet.

Go Cowboys! Jon really wants to share his love of sports with Katie. He is excited about her wearing her new tee for each game.

Aviator frames from Great Aunt Diane - stinkin' cute!

Giant okra growing at the Arboretum

Do Katie's legs appear long in this pic? Must be Daddy's genes!

Bows are Bad

I want Katie to be one of those little girls with the matchy-matchy head to toe outfits. She is having no part in this. Three times I tried to stick the precious ladybug hairbow in her hair. Three times she removed it. This is after church. Look how free she is without bow, shoes, and bracelet!
She smiles like her Mommy! I can't wait until Jon starts telling her to "be normal" in pictures!

Daddy's Girl

Does this picture remind you of anyone?

Remember Jon's hair fro prior to Katie's birth?

Jon takes a turn at blogging

I was off today so we spent the day out and about and then at the mall. Katie did a bunch of walking on her own at the mall. Her afternoon nap turned into a 3 hour nap so we finally went in and kind of waked her up, so here is a picture of her still asleep.

Katie is turning into her mom. She loves books and here are a couple pictures of her when we came into the room to see what she was doing and guess what, she was reading. She is becoming very good at finding the dog in all her books.

Parent Child Dedication

Is Jon doing the funky chicken? No, today was Parent Child Dedication at our church. We stood before family (Grandma, Granddad, Meme, Papa, Aunt Diane, Aunt Sue, Aunt A, Uncle D, Mad Dog, Em, Andrea, Carlee, and Jennifer) and church friends and dedicated ourselves to helping Katie grow to know and love Jesus. She was a happy baby throughout the service. She was vocal too. Jon had to put a pacifier in her mouth to keep her from out preaching the pastor. Parents were asked to select a scripture reference for their child. We selected Colossians 1:9-10.
Since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.
I read this verse while pregnant with Katie. Since we knew Katie was on the way we have been praying for her. The rest of the verse expresses our hope for her as she grows.

We had lunch at our house after church. A picture of the meal is included here. We served chicken sausage and mushroom lasagna, beef and tomato lasagna, Italian veggie salad, and Neiman Marcus cookies. Yum!

The men watched the Cowboy game. As you can see from the photo, it was very relaxing.

Mad Dog entertained herself by making unique jewelry. It was a great day spent with family. We were so happy to have many of our family members present to share Katie's special day.

Also of note:

Katie wore pantyhose for the first time today!

Katie and Daddy are twins!
